7 Best breakfasts around the world
When we’re at home in Belgium breakfast usually means a quick coffee and a snack on the way to work. But when we’re abroad we love to go out for breakfast, preferably on quirky and unique locations!
Below we have listed our 7 best and most memorable breakfast experiences (and therefore most recommended) around the world :) Let us know your top breakfasts by commenting below!
1. Australia – Sydney
After living in Australia for over a year now we can safely say we’ve never had better breakfasts (or brekkies) than in this wonderful country! The options are unbelievably plentiful: traditional bacon & egg rolls, hip(ster) avocado toasts, fruity banana breads or healthy chia breakfast bowls… the choice is yours! We never had tastier breakfasts anywhere else in the world!
So when choosing where to go for brekkie in Sydney, it all comes down to your own food preference and which one of the numerous gorgeous locations you’ll pick first! By the way, every weekend there are also various markets where you can have your breakfast on the go while browsing the stalls.
A couple of our favourite places to go for breakfast in Sydney are: The Boathouse, Indigo, Bare Naked Bowls, Single Origin Roasters and Mrs Jones the Baker.
2. USA – Moab
During a road trip across the Western Part of the USA we visited Moab on our way to Arches National Park. Just outside town you can find the Red Cliffs Lodge, located along the Colorado River. It offers a fabulous all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet with one of the best views in the area! We dug into scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, fresh fruit, bagels and muffins while enjoying the breathtaking scenery around us: the majestic wooden architecture of the lodge, the 2,000 foot red rock canyon, the Colorado River banks… we simply couldn’t get enough!
As a bonus you can visit the on site Moab Museum of Film and Western Heritage, featuring 100 years of cowboy and filmmaking history, the place to be for Thelma and Louisa fans ;)
3. Spain – San Sebastián
San Sebastián (aka Donostia) is known for being thé gastronomic hub of Europe – if not the world! So to say we indulged in deliciousness while we were there would be an understatement. The city is best known for its Pintxos, a pintxo or pincho is a small “snack”, typically eaten in bars in Basque country. To find out more about these little pieces of heaven, head over to our food frenzy blog post :)
After eating and drinking the night away in the many bars of San Sebastián, we sobered up after a morning beach stroll, and had a simple but savoury breakfast of croissants, juice and coffee with a great view over Bahía De La Concha.
4. Morocco – Fez
During a train and city hopping adventure through Morocco we stayed at a very cool place in Fez (or Fès). It was a traditional house known as a Riad or Riyad, which means that at the centre of the house there’s an interior garden or courtyard with a fountain. The surrounding rooms are all focused on this courtyard, providing more privacy and protection from the scorching sun. We absolutely loved this beautiful design!
We had a delicious breakfast of coffee, juice, meloui (Moroccan pancakes) and jam on the courtyard, while gazing up at the stunning and intricate Andalusian-style architecture around us. Afterwards we went to the rooftop of the house to take in the vastness of this massive city. Such a great way to kick off the day :) !

5. France – La Rochelle
During a road trip across France we stopped over in La Rochelle, also known as La Ville Blanche (the White City). The city has a rich history in seafaring and preserved its historic buildings (limestone facades, arcaded walkways, ancient lighthouses, aristocratic mansions, …) beautifully, making it one of the most picturesque cities on the Atlantic Coast!
The Vieux Port (Old Harbour) is packed with excellent seafood restaurants, but you can definitely grab a great breakfast too. So before hopping on our bikes to explore the nearby Ile de Ré we had a typical French breakfast of coffee, crispy croissants and baguette with butter, with one of the best views over the Old Harbour in town… Delicieux!
6. Cambodia – Angkor Wat
Having breakfast isn’t always solely about a feast for your taste buds, sometimes it’s primarily about the location where you’re having it :) This was very much the case for our breakfast in Angkor Wat. We visited this magnificent World Heritage site a couple of years back, and it made a big impression, what an incredible legacy of Khmer culture!
We got there by Tuk-Tuk (aka Rickshaw) from Siem Reap before dawn, in order to witness the sunrise over the mystical temples. After pinching ourselves during the many colours of the sunrise over the Angkor Wat silhouette, we hopped back into the Tuk-Tuk for the styrofoam packed breakfast our driver had brought along: a sober meal of bread, butter and banana… but with a million dollar view :)

7. Mexico – Puerto Arista
While we were backpacking through Mexico we stopped at the little beach town of Puerto Arista, because we wanted to visit the Sea Turtle Sanctuary. Before helping out setting hundreds of baby sea turtles free on the beach at dusk (which was AWESOME!!!), we wanted to grab a late and lazy breakfast.
We found a little restaurant right on the beach, and treated ourselves to a yummy breakfast of scrambled eggs with plátanos maduros (sweet fried bananas) and a fresh pineapple juice. Delicioso!
